In November 2007, Tabasco, Mexico was struck by massive flooding, leaving thousands without homes and jobs. Most of the state remained under water for some time, which destroyed agricultural sites, industrial facilities, and residences. According to the BBC, Tabasco Governor Andres Granier has reported that more than 1 million residents have been affected by this disaster. Members of Disaster Shakti are eager to respond to the many needs of Tabasco's community members. From May 11th to May 21st, Shakti members will travel to Villahermosa, the capital of Tabasco, where they will join with local non-governmental organizations and stakeholders in their relief efforts. For the first three days of the trip, Shakti members will focus their energy on cultural immersion. The remainder of the trip will be dedicated to disaster relief efforts.
