A Description of the Latino Cultural Connection (LCC)
Latino Cultural Connection - SERD - Multicultural Center for Research and Practice - Antioch University New England
Latino Cultural Connection (LCC), an arm of SERD, is made up of a group of students from Antioch and members of the greater Keene community with varying levels of Spanish-speaking ability who meet to refine their conversational Spanish, learn more about the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world, and understand all of these issues as they might relate to the practice of professional psychology.
Meeting Summary, December, 1, 2008:
Today at LCC, we discussed how we all were working on term papers, some of us with more success with regard to time management than others. We talked about the internship sites that the fourth-year students in the group were applying to and their successes so far in receiving interviews. Also, we discussed the Patriots' loss to the Steelers yesterday afternoon and how our time might have been better used by working on homework rather than watching the game. Finally, we closed by talking about the different neighborhoods in Boston that we frequented, why we spent time there, and how safe we felt in those areas.
Meeting Summary, November 17, 2008:
Today at LCC, we discussed our current academic courses and our plans for the winter break. Two of our members are planning trips to the Spanish-speaking World. We also discussed some of the history of the country of Spain and learned new terms that came up in our discussions, such as how to say “honeymoon,” “post office,” and “Dark Ages” in Spanish.
Meeting Summary, November 3, 2008:
Members discussed the benefits and difficulties that they have encountered so far at their practicum sites. The three fourth-year students present at the meeting talked about how their internship application process was going. The group discussed how certain terms in clinical psychology might be best translated into Spanish as well.
The first meeting of the semester, October 6, 2008:
At our first meeting today, 10-6-08, group members discussed what they were studying in each of their classes and how they were enjoying them. Also, Bryan, our discussion leader, gave the rest of the group a refresher on verb conjugation. Our next meeting is scheduled for two weeks from today.
