Guidelines

The Journal of Multicultural Counseling and Development invites articles concerned with research, theory, and program applications pertinent to multicultural and ethnic minority interests or experiences in all areas of counseling and related areas of human development with an emphasis on multicultural topics in the United States. If you wish to contribute to the journal, please follow these guidelines:

  • Manuscripts should be well organized and concise so that the development of ideas is logical. Avoid dull, stereotyped writing and aim for the clear and interesting communication of ideas.
  • Manuscript style must be that of the Publication Manual for the American Psychological Association sixth edition (2009), which is available from:
    Order Department, APA
    750 First St. NE
    Washington, DC 20002-4242
  • Never submit material that is under consideration by another periodical.
  • Limit your manuscript length to allotted number of characters.  See table for more information.
  • Include an abstract of not more than 50 words. A title page should accompany the manuscript. Include on this page the names of the authors and a paragraph that reports the professional title and institutional affiliation of each author. This page must include the full names of all authors along with their mailing addresses, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail addresses.
  • Article titles and headings should be as short as possible.
  • Proofread the manuscript carefully for typos, grammar, spelling, pasted text, formatting of text, tables, and figures.
  • Double space all material, including references and quotations.
  • Provide one-inch margins all around.
  • Do not use footnotes.
  • Use APA style citations in the text. APA style References list must be complete, including volume number, issue number, and pages for journal citations. Make sure that all references mentioned in the text are listed in the References list and vice versa.
  • Reduce bias in language against persons on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, racial or ethnic group, disability, or age by referring to the guidelines in the sixth edition of the APA publication manual (APA, 2009)
  • Manuscripts should include no more than 3 tables or 2 figures. Each table should be on a separate sheet of paper following the References list of the article. Final placement of tables is at the discretion of the production editor.
  • Figures (graphs, illustrations, line drawings) should be supplied as camera-ready art. Titles for the figures may be attached to the art and will be set in appropriate type.
  • Lengthy quotations (300-500 cumulative words or more from one source) require written permission from the copyright holder for reproduction. Adaptations of tables and figures also require reproduction approval from the copyrighted sources. It is the author's responsibility to secure such permission and a copy of the publisher's written permission must be provided to the journal editor immediately on acceptance of the article for publication by ACA.
  • One original copy of all material must be sent on 8 1/2" by 11" printing paper. A copy of the manuscript must be sent electronically to JMCD@antiochne.edu.
  • Authors must provide the final version of accepted manuscripts on a CD-rom in Microsoft Word format for IBM compatible computers. No other formats will be accepted. The CD should be labeled with the first author's name, article title, Manuscript Identification Number (MID#). MID#, journal name, and the date of the final manuscript.
  • Submit one hard copy to:
    Gargi Roysircar
    Editor, JMCD
    Department of Clinical Psychology
    Antioch University New England
    40 Avon Street
    Keene, NH 034361
  • You must send an electronic copy of the manuscript via e-mail to JMCD@antiochne.edu since e-mail is the journal's primary mode of communication.
  • Send inquiries regarding your manuscript to JMCD@antiochne.edu. When referencing, please include the manuscript id number.

ACA journal articles are edited in a uniform style for correctness and consistency of grammar, spelling, and punctuation. In some cases, portions of manuscripts have been reworded for conciseness and clarity of expression. Preliminary typeset pages of the edited article are sent to the senior author for final review. Changes at this stage must be limited to correcting inaccuracies and typographical errors. Authors must bear responsibility for the accuracy of references, tables, and figures. On publication of an article, a complimentary copy is sent to all authors through the corresponding author.
